Bare beaches book recommends the following:

1. Cayo Largo, Cuba

Nudity is freely tolerated along many parts of the beach at Cayo Largo, an island off the south coast of Cuba.  This island has no permanent residents and was developed strictly for tourists in the 80’s.  Popular with Canadians and Europeans, Cayo Largo is the only place in Cuba where beach nudity is acceptable.

2. Arnaoutchot, France

Located in the heart of Les Landes de Gascogne, in a pine forest of 45 ha, Arnaoutchot is the perfect naturist destination for your family.  Facilities include:

Play areas,

Sport facilities,

Restaurant,

Pizzeria,

2 swimming pools

Waterslide and Hydrotherapy centre

Grocery store, plus much more.

During the high season Arna offers over 60 workshops and multiple activities for young and old, plus evening activities.

The site is open from April until September offering a rage of accommodation.

For more information click here.

3. Playa Risco del Paso, Fuerteventura

Playa de Sotavento is 10 km long and situated on the south eastern coast of Fuerteventura.  The beach is divided into two sections – Playa Risco del Paso and Playa Barca.

This east-facing beach of the Jandía peninsula is a tremendous expanse of over 10 kilometers, easily accessible from several points.  Nudists and textile bathers intermingle along the entire length of the beach.  At its northern end, the beach blends into the coves of the Costa Calma resort area.  Two of these coves also draw nude bathers.

4. Playa Illetes, Formentera

On the north side of Formentera, Illetes is a peninsula that tapers toward Espalmador Island.  Nudists and textiles mix freely along many parts of the peninsula, and at its narrowest point, you can be naked on the white sand with water just a few dozen paces away on either side.  At low tide, it is possible to wade to Espalmador Island, a small island which is often populated with nudists. Other than wading, it is also possible to reach Espalmador by boat from Formentera’s ferry dock.

5. Los Grottes Plage, France

Ile du Levant, where nudism was first practised in France, can be reached by ferry from Le Lavandou.  The island is full of small naturist hotels and guesthouses, and nudity is allowed almost everywhere (except for the port of Heliopolis and the military areas which are off limits anyway).  The nude beach is called Les Grottes Plage and is 10 minutes walk along the quayside.  Please note that cars are generally forbidden on this island so you will have to get around by bicycle or on foot.

Nakation News – Best Beaches for Snorkelling and Diving

The Bare Beaches book has come up with their top 5 nudist beaches for snorkelling and diving.  These are:

1. Paya Bay beach, Honduras

Paya Bay beach is located within Paya Bay Resort which is described as a beach, nature, leisure, and wellness boutique hotel on the beautiful island of Roatan in the Central American Caribbean.

There are three beaches in the bay –

– Bliss Beach (topless apart from specially designated naturist weeks) – this has been voted one of the top ten most beautiful private beaches in the Caribbean.

– Buccaneer Landing – a private, protected cove teeming with juvenile tropical fish that is ideal for sunbathing and swimming

– Secret Cove – a spectacular little cove near the tip of the Alligator Head rock formation that has excellent snorkeling as soon as you enter the water.

For more information see the Paya Bay Resort website.

2. Sunset Waters beach, Curacao

3. Sveti Nikola, Porec, Croatia

The naturist beach on Sveti Nikola is located just off the coast of Porec.  The islet of Sveti Nikola is Porec’s oldest bathing place and a favourite since the end of the 19th century. The islet can be reached by free boat which starts regularly (every 30 minutes) from the town promenade and only takes a few minutes.
When you get to the island, proceed left along the coast, past the textile beach and than you will find entrances to the FKK beach on the left side of the path.

The beach itself is marked as naturist only with large FKK signs written on the shore.  It is very small (no more than 100 meters in length), extremely rocky and hidden from sight.  It has no facilities whatsoever and no shade, so take what you need for the day.

4. Vritomartis, Crete

See my blog for more information on this beach.

5. Villata, Porto Vechio, Corsica

For more information click here.

If you have been to any of these beaches we would love to hear from you.  Alternatively, if you have any suggestions on any other nudist beaches that are ideal for snorkelling please do get in touch.

Nakation News – Best Nudist Beaches in Spain

Holidayresources.com have listed their top 15 nude beaches in Spain.  Heres a guide to top 11 on mainland Spain:

1. La Mar Bella, Barcelona

Click here for mynakation blog on this beach.

2. Waikiki or Cala Fonda, La Mora, Tarragona

The Bare Beaches book provides the following information on this beach:

“Not one but a couple of pretty naturist coves go by the names of Cala de la Roca Plana and Cala Fonda – often simply referred to as Waikiki.  They are off the beaten track and attract a lively young crowd.  The unspoilt little bays are backed by pinewoods and have great swimming but no lifeguard.  Some buff bathers use the yellow mud on the cliff as a skin toning treatment.  Take your own refreshments and sun shade.

The coves are between Platja Llarga and La Mora.  Take the N340 east out of Tarragona, and in a short distance (near km marker 1168) turn right for Punta de la Mora and follow the signs to Camping Torre de la Mora.  From the approach to the campsite a footpath strikes off to the right, up into the woods and has small guiding arrows.  During the summer months simply follow the other visitors.  The walk to the first cove (Cala de la Roca Plana) is almost a mile.  Cala Fonda is just beyond”.

3. Platgetes de Bellver (Castellon), Valencia

This beach is located to the north of Benicassim.  The official tourist website for Valencia states the following:

After the yacht port, a craggy and woody coast follows, where small and inaccessible creeks can be found before arriving in the zone known as Platgetes. These are two closed creeks located in a quiet residential area consisting of single-family houses and villas. There is a nudism area situated near the rail-way of Oropesa.

4. Playa los Tusales, La Marina, Guardamar

The Bare Beaches book provides the following information on this beach:

“A pale sandy beach backed by dunes and pinewoods near La Marina.  Popular with families, this delightfully unspoilt beach has more than 2km for naked bathing – room for everyone to find their own space.

To get to the beach drive south from Alicante through Santa Pola on the N332 to La Marina.  Turn left down the lane next to Camping Internacional and after 1.5km at the car park turn right.  From the end of the car park, south to the river Segura, the beach is au natural,”

Nakation News – Antiparos

Click here for article in which Emily Rees visits Theologos beach, Antiparos.

The Bare Beaches book states that following:

“This popular beach is unusual because it is one of very few official beaches in Greece, and has been since the early 1970’s.  Although the sandy shore is less than 100 metres long, it is possible to carry on to the next beach.  You can also go au natural if you wade to the small offshore island of Diplo.  Lots of opportunity for bare exploration and if it’s windy there are dunes at the back of the beach.  Refreshments and a mini-market are available at the nearby campsite.

The beach is 700m north from the harbour in Antiparos village.

Camping Antiparos just west of the nude beach offers camping and bamboo huts for hire.”

Barcelona – the perfect nakation?

I know that public nudity is now banned in Barcelona, but given the number of fantastic naturist beaches within close proximity, I wondered whether Barcelona is the best place to go for the perfect nakation?

Let me know what you think.

Here’s what Barcelona has to offer naked traveller:

1. Playa de las Rocas

This beach located just west of Calella’s main town beach has several coves where nudists.

Click here for some photos showing the coves and the town’s main beach.

See map below for location.

2. Platja de la Musclera

This popular beach is located to the north of Barcelona in Arens de Mar.  The beach is just off the coastal highway N-II therefore access is easy.  Car parking provided.

The fantastic Bare Beaches book describes the beach as the following:

“A well managed official naturist beach of clean fine-grain sand, looked after by the local authority.  Popular with families, young people and male groups.  Care required when swimming – steeply shelving shore with some submerged rocks.”

The beach is located between Arenys de Mar and Caldes d’Estrac and easily reached by the train from Barcelona.

Train –

The rail journey from Barcelona is 35 minutes; get off the train at Caldes and it’s a 10 minute walk along the promenade towards Arenys, by the Restaurant Hispania and the sailing club.  The nude beach is clearly signposted.

Road –

Take the N11 along the coast for 37km north-east of Barcelona and turn for the beach by the km-marker 655.

3. Playa de la Mar Bella

Just a few kilometers from Barcelona’s central square, this may well be the most urban nude beach in the world.  This beach is almost always very crowded, and nudists are almost always a rather small minority even though nudity is perfectly acceptable.

Bare Beaches describes the beach as:

“Swimming is good but steer clear of the breakwater.  It has bars, showers, toilets, children’s play areas, parking, disabled access, lifeguards and safe drinking water.

Location –

The beach is next to the Mar Bella sports centre at Villa Olimpica, 1km north of the marina and 2km from the Christopher Columbus statue in the city centre.  Nearest metro stations are: Poblenou (line IV); or Selva de Mar (line IV).  Buses 36, 71 and 141.

4. Playa de Sant Sebastià (Barceloneta)

Playa de Sant Sebastia lies at the southern end of Barceloneta and is covered in golden sand and is 1.1 km long.

Playa de Sant Sebastia offers everything that you can expect from a city beach: showers, toilets, lifeguard stations, etc.  The beach has a high number of local visitors plus Barcelona’s surf community meets here when the swell is good.

The nudist area is at the southern end of the beach.

Nakation news – Orange release list of world’s best nudist beaches

Orange have released a list of the world’s best nudist beaches on their holiday ideas website.

Oddly there are only three beaches listed! Anyway, I thought I’d give you some information on them.

Cala San Pedro, Cabo de Gata, Spain

The beach is listed in the Bare Beaches book as a beach for adventurous naturists.  The beach can only be reached by boat or a longish walk.  It is now home to a small hippy community – peace and tolerance existing far from a materialistic world.

Location

Access is along the coastal trail GR92 heading north from the small town of Las Negras (approximately 5km walk).   The dramatic scenery enroute is amazing and frequently resembles a lunar landscape plunging into the Mediterranean.

Photos

I’ve not been to this beach so if any of you have, we’d love to hear from you.  If any of you have stayed in any nudist friendly properties in the area, let us know!

The other two beaches listed are: i) Cap d’Agde, France and ii) Wreck Beach, Canada.

Nakation News – El Portus

I came across this article on another first-time experience, this time to El Portus.

Accompanying a friend, Jane Cornwall shares with us her experience of going naked for the first at the wonderful Camping Naturista El Portus.  Click here for the full article.

It is good to know that Jane was willing to give naturism a try and I particularly like the contrast between these two sentences:

“As I sit there, conspicuous in my bikini bottoms, I realise they are simply that – bodies. There is nothing erotic or pervy about it. The atmosphere is laid-back, friendly and overwhelmingly democratic”

Followed by:

“A week in, I sit on our porch and watch our new neighbours arrive. ‘Hola!’ I say, liberated from clothes and inhibitions. ‘How’s that for a view?’”

Click here for my review of this perfect place – Spain May 2010.

If any of you have stayed here, we’d love to hear you thoughts.

Nakation News – Playa de Salvaje

Good article here about one couple’s first time experience of going naked on a beach.

See article here.

The beach in question is Barinatxe Beach, Sopelana, Spain.  However, it is also known as Playa de Salvaje.

According to nakedplaces.net, this beach draws a large crowd of both clad and unclad visitors.  Nudists tend to use one end of the beach, but even on crowded days there are often a few nudists interspersed among the textiles on the central part of the beach.  Of all the nude beaches near Bilbao, this one is the most popular.

Directions

The beach is located to the north of Bilbao, close to Sopelana.

Photos

The beach is also the location of the annual 5000km nude race.  See here for more information.  It doesn’t look like the website is updated that much!

If any of you have been to this beach or even participated in the nude race, we’d love to here from you.

If any of you have stayed in nudist friendly property in this area, please let us know!

Spain – May 2011 (Post 3)

Playa de Negrete

The final beach we went to was a trip back to Playa de Negrete in the Calblanque Regional Park (see post 3 May 2010).

However, instead of staying on the main Playa de Negrete beach, we headed over the headland to the smalled coves on the other side.  I’m not sure what they are called hence I’ve titled this beach review – Playa de Negrete.

Directions

Follow directions as stated in previous post of this beach.  To get to the smaller coves head right as you face the beach and walk along Playa de Negrete.  There is a very small cove (about 5 metres wide) at the foot of the headland.  Walk past here up and over the headland.  At the top of the headland you’ll see the coves in front of you.  Take when walking over the headland – there are some paths but be careful where you place your foot as some of the rocks are loose.  We suggest you spend the day on the second beach you get to.

Review

Unlike Playa de Negrete, this beach was 100% naked, with a surprising mixture of younger couples.  The beach is made up of soft sand and calm water.

The first picture shows the headland that you need to walk over.  The second shows the beach to head for (as seen from the top of the headland).

The beach was gorgeous and so would definitely recommend it.

However, if you decide to come here, stay clear from the cove to the right of this beach.

I decided to go off snorkeling around the rocks and down past the adjacent cove.  It was here that I saw two men having sex and then got wanked at by a lone male as I made my way back. I would therefore warn people to stay away from this section.  Honestly, what is it with some people!

If any of you have been to this beach we would love to here from you.  Also if any of you have stayed in any nudist friendly properties in this area we’d love to here about it
